What is Respite Care?
Respite Care is a form of short-term support that gives primary caregivers a much-needed break from daily responsibilities, while ensuring the supported person continues to receive safe, appropriate and attentive care. Because every individual and family has unique needs, Respite Care can take many different forms. It may be as simple as spending an hour with someone for companionship, taking a child with a disability to the park, or providing full-time, in-home support that includes meal and nutritional planning, cooking, housekeeping, Resident Care Worker to Nursing level care (see qualifications, below) which can also include community involvement, and more broad home management tasks such as coordinating vendors, handling seasonal changeovers, or assisting with the purchase of household items and equipment. In some situations, there may be no primary caregiver nearby - family may live away or be unable to provide regular support. In these cases, the Respite Care Worker may be the key person helping an individual remain safely and comfortably in their own home.

With my own family involved in the Provincial Home Care System, I saw how difficult it can be to find straightforward information and qualified private support. My goal is to make that process easier for everyone by bringing helpful information, guidance and connections together in one place.
